Jane Fonda has cancer, announces her lymphoma diagnosis

Jane Fonda announced on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and had started chemotherapy.

“This is a very treatable cancer,” Fonda wrote in a blog post. “80% of people live, so I feel very fortunate. I am also fortunate to have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments. I realize, and it hurts, to be privileged with this. Almost every family in America has had to deal with cancer At one time or another, a lot of them can’t get the quality health care I’m getting and that just isn’t true.”

Fonda said she’ll do chemotherapy for 6 months, adding, “I’m taking the treatments pretty well, and believe me, I’m not going to allow any of this to interfere with my climatology.”

“Cancer is a teacher and I’m paying attention to the lessons it gives me,” Fonda added. “One thing that has already shown me is the importance of society. To grow and deepen society so that we are not alone. And Cancer, along with my age – around 85 – certainly teaches us the importance of adapting to new realities.”

Fonda’s post concluded: “Half-terms are looming, and they’re too far away, so you can count on me to be there with you as we grow our army of climate champions.”
