Chadwick Boseman wins a posthumous Emmy for ‘What If…?’

Wakanda forever. Long live the spirit of Chadwick Boseman.

The Television Academy has finally paid homage to the late actor’s greatness by giving him an Emmy Award.

Boseman earned a posthumous win for the outstanding voice of T’Challa in the animated series “What If…?” From Disney+ and Marvel Studios.

The actor made an indelible mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he gave amazing performances as T’Challa in “Captain America: Civil War” and “Black Panther” as well as “Avengers: End Game”. But his voice work as Star-Lord T’Challa in the animated series will be one of his last projects.

The show aired on Disney+ about a year after his death.

Written by lead writer A.C. Bradley and directed by Brian Andrews, What If…? It premiered on streaming platform Disney+ in August 2021, and is the first Marvel animated series. The anthology show explores alternate timelines in the multiverse that show what would happen if key moments from the MCU films happened differently.

Boseman, who died of colon cancer in August 2020 at the age of 43, has a legacy that continues to be prominent in pop culture and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially with the upcoming blockbuster “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” slated for release in cinemas this November.

The original film became the first superhero film to be nominated for Best Picture, and eventually won three Academy Awards (production design, costumes, and original score).

The late actress Jessica Walter was also nominated for her outstanding voice performance for her work on the FXX animated series “Archer”.
