PowerToys 0.62 adds a screen ruler and text extractor to Windows

Microsoft is releasing an update to version 0.62 for PowerToys on Windows. This latest release brings three new tools to a popular Windows tool that are meant to help improve productivity in Windows. The list includes Screen Ruler, Quick Accent, and Text Extractor.

As the names of these new PowerToys tools suggest, they are fairly basic, but for some people, they add much-needed productivity boosters in Windows. The screen ruler, for example, can help measure the pixels on your screen with an easy keyboard shortcut. Then, with Quick Accent, you can type characters with accents by simply holding down the associated key and the space bar. This should be very useful for Windows users who type in a secondary language, saving the need to remember a much longer keyboard shortcut which usually triggers accented characters. It’s her advantage It was on macOS briefly.

The most interesting tool is Text Extractor. This utility works much like the snipping tool in Windows, but with a main benefit. When running, it will copy text from whatever you cut from the selected area and paste it on the keyboard. This was added to PowerToys by Developed by Joe Finney, which is behind the Text Grab app in the Windows Store that does the same thing. You’ll be able to save time copying notes from images or PDFs this way.

If you have updated to PowerToys 0.62, you can find these new features under the Settings app. You will have to enable or disable it as you see fit. By default, to run Screen Ruler, you can use Windows key + Shift + M. Meanwhile, Quick Accent works by first pressing the spacebar, along with the letter you want to highlight, and bringing up the toolbar at the top of the screen. Finally, you can access the Text Extractor with Windows key + Shift + T. on your keyboard.

If you haven’t already tried PowerToys, you can download it from the Microsoft Store or GitHub. The application is completely free. Just keep in mind that there may be some known issues, as this is the first version of the 0.62 cycle. In general, the problems do not affect the daily use of the application, and you can read more about it in the link below.
