“Anatomy of Scandal” star Robert Friend has signed on to star as famed Romanian conductor Sergio Celibidache in The Yellow Tie, an upcoming biographical film about Celibidache’s life, diverse can exclusively reveal.
The friend will have a central role in this feature, playing the young Celibidache. as such diverse John Malkovich was revealed last year to play an older version of the conductor.
The duo appeared on screen together in 2004 in the movie “The Libertine”, in which Johnny Depp played the Duke of Rochester. Siddiq has also appeared in features such as “Hitman: Agent 47” and “The Death of Stalin”. He will then appear in “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” alongside Benedict Cumberbatch.
Serge Ioan Celebedashi, son of the conductor, will direct “The Yellow Tie” based on a screenplay he co-wrote with James Olivier.
Robert W. Court (“Cocktail”, “Jumanji”, “Terminator Genesis”) also rose to prominence as executive producer.
The producers are Adela Vrinceanu Celebidachi and Cristina Dobritoiu (Oblique Media Film, Romania), Andrei Boncea, Christopher Melbourne (Frame Film, Romania) and James Olivier (Celi Films, UK).
Celibidache is one of the most famous artists in Romania, whose amazing life was unknown to many of those who adore his music. After he told his father that he intended to pursue a music career, Celebidash was expelled from the home and suffered homelessness. He traveled to Berlin to realize his dream. He faced discrimination and prejudice but after surviving World War II he overcame odds to win a competition that made him the youngest conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra ever.
Celebidash went on to become one of the most famous conductors of the 20th century. Throughout his career, he vehemently opposed the authoritarian regime in Romania. His unconventional approach to music as well as his politics made him a controversial figure in his homeland and throughout the world of classical music.

“The Yellow Tie” is scheduled to begin production in Romania in early 2023.
