Android 13 QPR1 Beta 1 hints at a new Clear Calling feature to reduce background noise during calls

Google recently released Android 13 QPR1 Beta 1, which fixed some bugs for Pixel devices. While the update doesn’t include any noteworthy user-facing changes, it does reveal some details about the upcoming Pixel devices. It sheds light on two unannounced Pixel devices codenamed Felix And the lynx, reveals a new animation highlighting the docking capabilities of the Pixel Tablet, and even suggests that Google may be working on a “Pro” version of the Pixel Tablet. but that is not all. Android 13 QPR1 Beta 1 also includes information about some upcoming software features, such as Clear Calling.

according to esper Mishaal Rahman, Google is working on a new “Clear Calling” feature to help reduce background noise during calls. Although the feature is currently in development and not present in the latest Android 13 beta, Rahman was able to enable it manually.

As you can see in the attached screenshots, the upcoming Clear Calling feature will appear in the sound and vibration settings on Pixel devices when it is rolled out to users. Its description states that it will reduce background noise during calls and work For calls on most mobile networks. However, it will not be available to connect via Wi-Fi.

The Call Clear Settings page also reveals that the feature will not send content from your call to Google. This indicates that the feature will likely use onboard AI/ML models to identify and reduce background noise during calls.
