The first trailer for ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ premiered at D23

Disney released the first stills of “Peter Pan & Wendy,” the studio’s upcoming live-action adaptation, exclusively at D23 Expo on Friday. The movie will premiere on Disney+ in 2023.

The film’s cast, including Ever Anderson as Wendy, Jude Law as Captain Hook, and Alyssa Wapanatâhk as Tiger Lily, took the stage for the reveal.

“It was really amazing to be able to play Wendy,” Anderson said. Wendy and Peter are equal in this movie.

“We delved into their drama a little bit and tried to figure out their past, when they were friends,” Lu added. “It was nice to put that insight into understanding why the hook is so creative.”

D23 audiences got to see the footage in person, which showcased first looks at the classic characters in a more realistic and realistic shot than we’ve seen before. Starring Alexander Moloney and Ever as the Fitulars, “Peter Pan & Wendy” follows J.M. Barrie’s classic 1953 novel by Peter Pan (Moloney), an ageless boy and children who transport them away to the magical world of Neverland.

Along with Moloney and Anderson, Lou and Yara Shahidi play classic Disney villain Captain Hook and Tinkerbell, respectively. Shahidi is the first black woman to take this role on screen. Other adaptations of the original film include Steven Spielberg’s “Hawk,” starring the late Robin Williams, and Joe Wright’s “Pan.”

For both Moloney and Anderson, the roles are the biggest of their careers. Moloney’s previous credits include Sky One’s sitcom “The Reluctant Landlord” and Disney Junior’s series “Claude,” while Anderson is best known for portraying young Natasha Romanoff in “Black Widow.”

Peter Pan & Wendy is directed and written by David Lowery, and co-written with Toby Halbrooks. Jim Whitaker and Joe Roth serve as producers. The film is produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Whitaker Entertainment, and Ruth/Kirchenbaum Films.
