Neon, Double Agent, Film4 Team for Asif Kapadia’s Documentary and Thriller ‘2073’

Neon, Double Agen and Film 4 from UK take part in the documentary “2073” directed by “Amy” Asif Kapadia.

The film’s vague description notes that it will “address some of the greatest challenges to our future”. The synopsis continues: “Kapadia’s decision to create a genre-defying thriller set in a dystopian future is inspired by Chris Marker’s famous 1962 feature ‘La Jetée’ about a time traveler who risks his life to change the course of history and save his future. Humanity.”

The two companies will co-finance and executive produce the project with productions by Kapadia and George Chignell. Davis Guggenheim, Nicole Stott and Jonathan Silberberg will serve as executive producers for Concordia Studio alongside Riz Ahmed’s Left Handed Films.

“I want to make an epic about the state of the world, using elements of science fiction as a lens through which we can study the huge questions we as a species and hopefully find solutions, before it’s too late,” Kapadia said.

The Academy Award winner is best known for his fully-preserved documentaries Emmy, Sina and Diego Maradona, which premiered at Cannes, Venice, Telluride and Sundance. Kapadia’s debut feature film, The Warrior, starring the late Irrfan Khan, won two BAFTA Film Awards.

In the film “2073”, Kapadia will meet his usual creative team, including editor Chris King and composer Antonio Pinto.

Dana O’Keefe, Head of Double Agent said: “We bet the filmmakers, and Asif is among the best ever. His track record really speaks for itself as he consistently delivers unparalleled storytelling, so he’s a really formidable team between Neon, Film4, Concordia and Left Handed. We are all proud to join forces in this innovative, bold and unconventional view of the future.”

Film4 Director Oli Madden added: “Asif is a consistently leading filmmaker, and we have been fortunate to work with him on a number of his previous films. This new project, a documentary-style vision of the future, as terrifying as it is an urgent call to action, got us instantly hooked. We can’t wait to see what Asif and his team of experts will create.”

The deal was negotiated by Jeff Deutchman, Stephanie Fahrion, Michael Himmler, Don McNicol, Dana O’Keefe and Eric Sloss. Kapadia attorneys Carlos K. Goodman, Hana Mulderink and Jacqueline Hurt as well as the independent talent group, WME and Cinetic Media.
