Yogi Berra’s Documentary “It’s Not Over Yet” sells to Sony Pictures classics

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the worldwide rights to Yogi Berra’s “It Ain’t Over” documentary about the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Sean Mullen directed The Document, which premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. The studio did not provide details of any release plans for the film.

Described as “an intimate portrait of a misunderstood American icon,” “It Ain’t Over” illustrates the life and career of Berra, a sports legend whose off-field personality often overshadowed his baseball accomplishments. Considered one of the best baseball players in baseball history, Pera has won 10 World Championships during 19 seasons in Major League Baseball, 18 of them with the New York Yankees. It also became known as Yogi-isms, such as “It’s not over yet to be over” and “It’s déjà vu all over again.”

In the documentary, his granddaughter Lindsay Pera tells his story along with his sons, former Yankee teammates, writers, broadcasters, and fans. It includes interviews with Joe Tory, Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly, Bob Costas, Finn Scully, Billy Crystal, and more.

“I am so grateful to the Berra family for commissioning me and my team to the legacy of Yogi. This movie was a true passion project for everyone involved – and we couldn’t imagine a better home than Sony Pictures Classics,” Mullen said.

Sony Pictures Classics added, “Heartly inspiring and humorous, Sean Mullen’s ‘It Ain’t Over’ is an unparalleled sports film, the full rich story of Yogi Berra, one of professional baseball’s greatest characters, and a true original. We are excited to present This movie is to audiences around the world.”

Producers are Natalie Metzger, Matt Miller, Peter Sobiloff and Mike Sobiloff with Vanishing Angle and Off Media.

The deal was negotiated by Cinetic Media.
