Comment on category: Actress Michelle Yeoh’s seasonal celebration of honors continues at the Toronto Film Festival and the anniversary screening of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) in Telluride. Its work on “everything everywhere at once” continues to stay on people’s radar and the A24 feels good about its prospects (as it should be). If nominated, she would be the second Asian actress to be nominated in the lead after Merle Oberon in “Dark Angel” (1935). Yeoh’s competition will come from Volpi Cup winner Cate Blanchett, delivering one of the best performances of her career in Todd Field’s “TÁR”. There’s also great work from academic beloved Olivia Colman, who split for her role in Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light” and became a full-fledged action star Viola Davis in “The Woman King,” which premiered on TIFF. Danielle Didweiler is sure to impress many with her work on Chinonye Chukwu’s “Till” and watching Cannes Best Actress winner Zar Ebrahimi, who will be on the “Holly Spider” arena.
