Drew Barrymore Shades Andrew Garfield for not having sex for 6 months

Keep in mind that Drew Barrymore is unaffected by at least some of Andrew Garfield’s acting style choices during Martin Scorsese’s “Silence.” Garfield told Mark Maron in August that he abstained from sex for six months in order to play a Jesuit priest in Scorsese’s religious drama. Barrymore’s reaction? “okay then?”

Prep for Garfield’s Silence was shown during the September 20 episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show” (via comma), with co-host Ross Matthews joking, “I abstain from sex, I mean I’ve been doing it all my twenties, right?” Barrymore said again, “What’s my problem that six months doesn’t seem so long? I was like, ‘Yeah it?'”

“We buried the valve there, that’s the headline,” Matthews added. “Drew can go six months, it’s not important.”

Barrymore later cited Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey as actors who practice acting with strong results. Barrymore said she understands why the cast would need to “transform and fully commit” to a character throughout filming.

“Absolutely [did]On some projects, like when I did ‘Gray Gardens,’ this movie I did where I played a real woman from real life Eddie Bell,” Barrymore added. I stayed in character.”

While appearing on Maroon’s “WTF” podcast, Garfield said there are “a lot of misconceptions about what the way acting is,” adding, “People still act that way, and it’s not about you being an asshole to everyone on set. It’s really just about it.” By living honestly under imagined circumstances, being really nice to the crew at once, being a normal human being, being able to drop it when you need to and stay in it when you want to stay in it.”

Garfield went celibate and vowed to fast for extended periods during the six months of preparation for “Silence”.

Garfield added, “I kind of bothered with this notion that ‘the way of acting is silly bullshit. Absolutely. It is also very special. I don’t want people to see my damn toilet pipes. I don’t want them to see how I make sausages.”
