Ed Vere Max Adaptation Submarine Playgrounds at Cartoon Forum

Leading Dutch animation studio Submarine (“Shoot The Pianist”, “Fox and Hare”, “Where is Anne Frank”) presented their latest TV series project based on Max’s best-selling children’s books at the industry event in Europe for TV series in – Made in Toulouse, southeast France.

A 52-episode seven-minute preschool series, “Max” is a character-driven show about a kitten with a big appetite for adventure, who sees herself as a valiant predator but is just a little ball of fluff.

The series will feature a simple, clear and colorful 2D aesthetic from award-winning British author and illustrator Ed Vere to allow the viewer to focus on the characters.

The team enlisted the voice of British actor Addie Edmondson as the narrator for a show that producer Bruno Felix says is also very dialogue-driven. However, the characters’ mouths don’t move: Instead, Buster Keaton fan Vere explains, the show will rely heavily on body language and facial expressions.

“These are the things that young children focus on when they are just beginning to learn a language because they have very well developed visual knowledge,” explains Veer, who co-created a course at the Center for Primary Education Literacy, informing teachers about visual literacy and how to use drawing in the classroom. .

“It made me very aware of how important expression is when you’re talking to young children because they understand a huge amount of things that we often don’t give them credit for,” he adds.

Ferry says he is confident Edmundson’s novel will help make the show popular with both children and parents. “Comedy operates on different levels: A person with comedic talent can make something a parent can pick up. Take a very popular show like ‘Peppa Pig’: Parents are in stitches, and if kids see their parents are enjoying the show, they’ll enjoy it even more.”

The Animation Forum runs until September 22nd in Toulouse, France.
