Former WWE NXT UK Champion Ilja Dragunov is making a shocking comeback to NXT

The latest episode of WWE NXT concluded with a main event to determine the number one contender for the NXT Championship from Bron Breakker, featuring JD McDonagh vs Tyler Bate. Both stars seemed to have the upper hand throughout the match and were both looking for second title chances after losing to Bricker previously on various occasions, and in the end it would be McDonagh who would get that second shot. Breakker was heading to the ring to take on McDonagh, but then made some familiar music, and fans saw the return of former WWE NXT UK Champion Ilja Dragunov, apparently entering the title picture for Halloween Havoc.

When Dragunov’s music hit, McDonagh lost his temper, screaming at the entrance and at the Breaker as Dragunov took to the ring. McDonagh looked furious that someone could get into the title picture after winning a second match against the champ, and when he hit Dragunov’s face, the former champ was funnier than anything else.

He pointed at the crowd and then looked at Bricker directly as the Dragunov cheers erupted. McDonagh continued to appear in the face of the returning star, which is when Breakker laughed and said the tournament wasn’t going anywhere, and took the title as NXT drew to a close.

Dragunov vs Breakker is sure to be an exciting match, but it remains to be seen if he will actually get a singles match for the title first or if he will end up facing McDonagh before that or if all three will end up in a Triple Threat match for the NXT Championship. All three matches can be compelling in their own right, so we’ll have to wait and see.

NXT also earlier revealed the date of their upcoming Halloween Havoc, which will air on October 22 on Peacock as a premium live event. Odds are that the event will have quite a bit of gold on the streak, and it looks like we’re already building a NXT Women’s Championship match between Katana Chance and Kayden Carter against Zoe Stark and Nikita Lyons.

It was also revealed during the show that the NXT North America Championship would be at stake as part of the Ladder Match, and would feature five NXT Superstars fighting it. Carmelo Hayes was announced first and then Oro-Mensah secured his place in tonight’s game by defeating Grayson Waller. More qualifying matches will take place in the coming weeks, so it could end up being one of tonight’s best matches when all is said and done.
