Well, I’m definitely intrigued. Aunt Lydia is one of the most complex characters in The Handmaid’s Tale, but it was by and large a vile presence in Gilead thus far. It should be interesting to see if she starts making an actual positive change, and how the show will establish her potential appearance commandments.
In the commandments writers, Lydia is one of three characters to tell the story, along with my daughter June. Through the novel we get a better understanding of Lydia’s psychology, and how she eventually became a terrifying aunt. She also got a redemption arc that would be great to see in the Hulu series, especially if Ann Dowd plays her iconic role.
