Metallica has announced that they will hold a special honors gala on November 6 to honor Johnny and Marsha Zazula, the founders of their original label, Megaforce Records. The group, which will be joined by fellow Megaforce alums Raven, will perform songs from the beginning of her career, dating back to 1983 and 1984.
The Zazulas, of decades an influential and respected couple on the metal scene, died within a year of each other in 2021 and 2022.
A portion of the proceeds from this show in the name of Johnny and Marsha will be donated to MusiCares, the nonprofit division of the Recording Academy that supports the health and well-being of the music community that provides preventative, emergency, and recovery programs for musicians and industry professionals. In addition, Metallica’s All In My Hand Foundation will once again support Feeding South Florida with a donation after the show.
Metallica provided details of the show in a statement: “We’re excited to add another night to the tour calendar this year with a special show at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on Sunday, November 6, 2022,” they wrote.
“Tonight will be very special as we celebrate the lives, legacy and achievements of Johnny and Marsha Zazola.
“Johnny gave us our first break in New York, released our first albums on his Megaforce Records label, and put us on the road on our first real tour. With Marsha at his side, Johnny was a mentor, manager, brand president, and father figure to all of us…. We wouldn’t be where Today we’re without them.Sadly, we recently lost both Johnny and Marsha, by just over a year apart.
We’ll be making a special playlist for you filled with songs from our days with Johnny and Marsha at Megaforce. Our lead touring partner since then, Raven, will be joining us to add more to the celebration and bring back memories. Head to Hard Rock Live and celebrate with us heavy metal pioneers and champions!
