Newport Beach Film Festival Honors to Include Ron Howard, Eddie Redmayne and Keke Palmer

The Newport Beach Film Festival has announced honors at the 2022 festival, which includes Oscar winners Ron Howard and Eddie Redmayne, and actors from Jonathan Majors and Patton Oswalt to Keke Palmer and Colson Baker (also known as Machine Gun Kelly.) artists will be honored at a luncheon. Concurrently with diverse’10 Actors To Watch takes place on October 16th at Balboa Bay Resort.

Howard receives diverse Legends and Groundbreakers Award for Creative Leadership. Having started as an actor in such classics as “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Happy Days,” Howard became an Academy Award-winning director and among his films as director are “A Beautiful Mind” and “Apollo 13.” He recently directed Thirteen Lives, the true story of saving a soccer team and their coach from a cave in Thailand. “Thirteen Lives” is available on Amazon Prime.

Among those in attendance is Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne, who will attend the NBFF Centerpiece screening of his new movie “The Good Nurse” on October 15 before being honored with the Icon Award the following day. Academy Award-winning Netflix movie star Jessica Chastain, with Redmayne playing Charlie Cullen, a nurse known as the “Angel of Death” and considered one of the most prolific serial killers in history.

DGA Award-winning and Emmy-nominated film director Paul Feig has received a Career Achievement Award for his work, which includes directing successful films including “Bridesmaids” and “A Simple Favor” and working as a producer on shows such as “Minx” and “Welcome to Flatch” . Feig is the director, producer, and co-writer of “The School for Good and Evil,” which was filmed by Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington and will be released October 19 in theaters and on Netflix.

Another multi-hyphenate band, Cooper Rave, who wrote, directed, produced and starred in Apple Original Films’ “Cha Cha Real Smooth”, which won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, was honored.

Four film actors will be honored with the Artist of Excellence Awards. Jonathan Majors will next appear in Dedication, which tells the true story of Jesse Brown, an elite black fighter pilot in the Korean War. Patton Oswalt has received critical acclaim for his role as a son-catching father in I Love My Father, which won audience and jury awards at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. Kiki Palmer led the horror film critic and Jordan Peele at the box office “No”. And Aubrey Plaza is being honored for her acclaimed role in “Emily the Outlaw”. The Spotlight Awards will be presented to Colson Baker for his brilliant role as an actor in “Taurus” and Anna Diop for her starring role in “Nanny,” which won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Aimee Carrero, who will appear later on “The List” from Searchlight, will receive the festival’s Breakout Award.
