Galveston, Texas (KTRK) – The Dickinson Police Department said four people were injured in the two vehicle crashes Friday night.

Detective Guadalupe Vasquez of DPD said the accident occurred at approximately 5:55 p.m. on Gums Bayou after an eastbound Cadillac on FM 517 crashed and veered into the western lanes, colliding with an oncoming silver car.

Officials said the Cadillac hit the second vehicle so hard that the silver car fell into a pothole on the north side of the road.

When Dickinson’s volunteer firefighters arrived on the scene, extraction tools had to be used to cut through the roof of the silver car to retrieve the driver and passengers inside.

According to officials, the Silver Car driver had to be flown by PHI Air Ambulance to UTMB Health’s Level 1 Trauma Center at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.

Vasquez said the occupants of the silver car and the Cadillac driver were taken to area hospitals via ambulances.

Crash team investigators believe alcohol was a contributing factor. Officials said a Cadillac driver was to undergo a mandatory blood draw to check for poisoning.
