Houston crime: Rene Alfredo Alvarado Lopez, 22, charged in hit-and-run crash that left 2-year-old dead on Nairns Street!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – A 22-year-old man faces two charges after a two-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run accident Saturday in southwest Houston.

Rene Alfredo Alvarado Lopez is accused of poisoning with manslaughter and failure to stop and provide assistance.

Alvarado Lopez is due to appear in the Court of Possible Causes on Monday.

ORIGINAL REPORT: A 2-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a speeding truck in southwest Houston, police say.

The accident occurred at block 8400 of Nairn Street near Gesner Road around 4:25 p.m. Saturday.

Houston police said Alvarado Lopez was driving a green Dodge Ram pickup truck through the parking lot of an apartment complex when it hit a child walking in the driveway area.

Police said he left his car after hitting the child, but witnesses followed him. Eventually, witnesses seized his car outside the apartment complex and were able to hold him until the officers arrived.

The two-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alvarado Lopez was interrogated by the officers, who determined that he was intoxicated.

This fatal incident is one of the incidents that occurred on Saturday related to a car and the death of a young child.

A 6-year-old was stuck and killed by a driver in a white SUV at Building 9700 of Leawood on Elmcroft Drive, also in southwest Houston, around 6:19 p.m.

The 52-year-old suspect in the second incident was charged with murder and the third DWI crime. He allegedly ran over the 6-year-old child three times.
