Houston crime: Decomposing body wrapped in blankets found inside Redford Apartments coat closet!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Apartment managers ready to serve the eviction on Monday encountered something shocking: a decomposing body wrapped in blankets inside a coat closet.

Houston police confirmed their investigation of the discovery in the sprawling Redford Apartments in Building 1300 of Redford Street, near Edgebrook Drive and Bay Highway.

Eyewitness News has learned that because the body has been poorly decomposed with no clear sign of how the person died, the police department is officially describing it as a suspicious death.

Police said the complex has several vacant apartments, including the one where the body is located. The squatters are believed to have been staying there, which eventually led to the discovery in the coat closet at about 5:30 p.m.

“Management at this apartment complex was posting an eviction notice at 407A. When they approached the door, they noticed a strong smell and flies. So, they back off and called the police,” HPD Homicide Det. Lance Osborne said. “When Patrol Clear Lake arrived, they had the same observations. Due to urgent circumstances, they made their way to the apartment, where they were able to locate the deceased victim inside one of the lockers.”

Osborne said that because the body was hidden in blankets and with decomposition, the gender and race were not clear. An autopsy will reveal the identifiers as well as the method and cause of death.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
