latest batch of Halloween Movies will be ending soon with a proper title The end of Halloween. Whether this will actually lead to any kind of true ending of Halloween The franchise is anyone’s guess, but it’s definitely going to be kind of a massive climax to the franchise to this point. We’re expecting some kind of final fight between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, and I’m usually all here for it, but I can’t get into it. The end of Halloween. I’m just not sure I care enough.
Halloweeni.e. the first movie in this trilogy (not to be confused with the original 1978 movie Halloween , which is also part of the official schedule for the new trilogy) was a good movie. I generally enjoyed it; It had high tension, creative killing, and most importantly, strong personalities with whom I connected. But that’s my problem, because at the end of the second part Halloween killsOne of those great characters, Judy Greer, Karen, was killed, so what’s the point?
Karen Judy Greer was the best part of the new Halloween
Karen is the most interesting character in the new Halloween. We only meet her as an adult, but we learn very quickly who she is and how this woman became. Growing up as the extremely paranoid daughter of Laurie Strode, she was taught how to fend for herself from a young age. Left out of Laurie’s care as a child, Karen eventually rejects her mother’s lifestyle and goes out on her own, building a more traditional and “normal” life for herself and her family. A special oddity for her is that she wears Christmas sweaters in October because she simply chose to “skip” Halloween as a holiday.
Karen was originally created as a secondary antagonist, serving as the wall between Laurie and her daughter Alison. She is the most confident that her mother is mostly paranoid and that Michael Myers has nothing to fear. However, when it turns out that there is actually something to fear, Karen takes it as seriously as anyone else.
there a certain moment in Halloween Which I always remembered, because the scene sort of “pushed on me.” It’s near the end of the movie during the final confrontation with Michael at Laurie’s house. In the scene, Karen and Alison are downstairs, learning that Michael is there. Karen, holding a rifle, began to collapse, demanding her mother. Karen says she can’t do that, and that she won’t be able to fight Michael Myers. This makes Michael show himself, and Karen shoots him in the mouth.
I remember sitting in the theater, and at first, when Karen started crying, I was confused. The movie was very clear that no matter how Karen felt about it, she was trained to fight. I know how to use this weapon. It didn’t make sense for her to act like this. The fact that she was bowing to Michael, and that she was presumptuous of me, was excellent. Karen is perfectly capable. She just doesn’t seem like the person she could be, and that’s how she understands you.
Killing Halloween made a big mistake
Halloween kills Not a good movie. It pretty much looks like it’s being run into place waiting to get to the final movie, but it has a few highlights in it and, again, it’s basically everything Karen. She is the real hero of Halloween killsAnd the Unfortunately, she faces the same fate as many heroes.
With Jamie Lee Curtis out of Laurie from commission for a large portion of Halloween kills, Karen is the focal point of the film. She’s the one trying to make sense of the madness that’s going on in and around the hospital while they wait for Laurie to recover and prepare for whatever might come from Michael Myers.
At one point, she tried to calm a mob who thought they had surrounded Michael, but only caused a sick man to panic. She understands the cost of all this aimless fear when a man kills himself instead of submitting to a mob. Later, when her daughter is about to become Michael’s next victim, she stabs the man in the back with a pitchfork and then escapes with her mask, a boss-level move. She tricked him a second time by leading him into the heart of the murderous mob. At least if they’re not going to stop until they kill someone, you might as well make sure it’s the right person.
Of course it does not work. Michael survives, kills whoever tries to kill him, and then does the thing I can’t forgive this privilege for: he goes back to his old house and kills Karen. The absolute best character in the first two films is now dead.
Now I can’t get excited about Halloween endings
I understand why Halloween kills I felt the need to kill Karen. They would need to do something to increase the tension and increase the stakes The end of HalloweenOf the three Strode women, Karen was the most captivating of the story. Whether or not Laurie Strode will survive this trilogy is a pretty big question, but she certainly will never die before the last movie.
Nor will they kill the teenager. Allison was the main character in POV in the first two films, and she is the least likely to die of the three ever. Horror movies don’t usually kill children unless the movie is about killing children. Take your grandmother and granddaughter out of the mix and you only have one time left.
While there might be a part of me that would like to see Michael Myers die because he killed Judy Greer, I’m mostly annoyed that the new movie won’t have Judy Greer. It was the best part in the movies and the fact that she wouldn’t be there in any final fight would make me less interested in this whole fight. However, we’ll see how this final chapter unfolds when Halloween Ends releases on October 14th.
