Large Indonesian presence in Busan Film Market

The Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) has expressed its support for the strong group of filmmakers from the country at the Busan International Film Festival. There are 20 participants from Indonesia across various fields of the festival.

Indonesian content in the festival program includes: Venice winner Maqbool Mubarak and the Toronto selection “Autobiography” and Camila Andini’s “Before, Now and Then” (“Nana”) in a window on the Asian cinema section; Goku Anwar “Slave of Satan 2: Company” in the Midnight Passion; “Blood Curse” series in an on-screen program. And two Indonesian co-productions – “Look At Me, Touch Me, Kiss Me” and “Stone Turtle” are also included in A Window on Asian Cinema. In the Asian project market, Platform Busan is co-directed by Yosep Anggi Noen and produced by Yulia Evina Bhara and Christian Emmanuel, and 10 young Indonesian filmmakers.

Director General of Cultural Affairs in Indonesia, Hilmar Fried said: “We are pleased that Indonesian filmmakers are flocking to Busan this year and to support them, we will hold an Indonesian evening to further promote their work, to expand their network and also to introduce new initiatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology such as the Indonesian Film Lab and the Short Film Competition We will also highlight his Indonesian films at BIFF this year.”

Bhara said, “This year, I think I am seeing the largest Indonesian delegation in recent years from BIFF, whether it is the films in the official selection or other sidebar programs and market programs such as ACFM and Platform Busan. The Busan platform was created to provide a space for collaboration and we are glad to know that we share the same ideas with the Indonesian Directorate of Film, Music and Media.”
