John Fethian, the exhibition industry’s largest lobbyist, will retire as CEO of the National Association of Theater Owners on May 1, 2023. The group said it had already begun looking for a successor to Fethian, but he left the big shoes to fill the NATO administration, as it’s called, for 30 years. .
Vithian began working as an external advisor to NATO in 1992, and took over the presidency in 2000. He helped guide group members through some of the most turbulent periods in the company’s history, including the transition to digital projection and the shutdown of COVID-19 that brought the industry to its knees.
“It is almost impossible to sum up a three-decade career in a few sentences,” Vithian said. “I will leave that to others. But my greatest goal has always been to leave this organization and this industry stronger and more effective than I found it – and most importantly – to ensure that it remains strong and effective after my departure. The professional and experienced staff that I leave behind and the culture of service we have built together is a legacy we are proud of. “.
