Yesterday was a big day for the Disney parks bottom line, as we saw price increases in almost all areas of everything from Disneyland ticket prices to food and drink at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. As one might expect, fans didn’t like the news, but maybe some will feel a little better as the new additions are confirmed to arrive on the coasts a day later as Fantasmic will finally return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios next month, and MagicBand+ will debut at Disneyland Resort before the expiration October.
MagicBand+ will officially appear at Disneyland Resort October 26, though Magic Key holders, Disney Vacation Club members, and Cast members will have access starting October 19. MagicBands will act as your park ticket, room key, and give you access to your return times from individual Genie+ or Lightning Lane. In the future, additional features will be added, including the ability to pay for food and goods by clicking on the bracelet.
The new MagicBand+ also includes LEDs that light up along with upcoming nightly shows. The first to work with the bands will be the holiday theme Believe… at Holiday Magic and World of Color – Season of Light. They will also work with the World of Color – One and Wondrous Journeys shows due to debut in January.
MagicBand+ has been running at Walt Disney World for several months, but this is the first time any version of MagicBand has been available at a Disneyland resort. Guests who have already purchased them to use at Walt Disney World can use the same devices at Disneyland, or they can be purchased for $34.99.
For those who love the great night shows at Walt Disney World, there’s also good news, as Fantasmic, Disney’s Hollywood Studios release that’s been MIA since the park reopened after the pandemic shutdown, will finally return in November. The exact date has yet to be confirmed, but given that the show hasn’t been discussed by Disney recently, other than appearing in a slide at the D23 Expo, it wasn’t clear if the show would actually return this year, despite promises.
While most right-thinking mortals would agree that Disneyland’s version of Fantasmic, which has been back in that park since May, is superior Fantasmic, Disney’s Hollywood Studios version has one very welcome thing that Disneyland doesn’t sit on. The returning Fantasmic game will also include some completely new elements when it debuts.
Seeing this news a day after the price hike certainly seems like an attempt to piss off fans with the new high prices they should focus on. These announcements will surely make some fans happy, especially after the bad news yesterday. At the same time, seeing the return of a show it was about three years ago when parks were cheaper, and adding a new service would cost more money in addition to higher ticket prices might not be enough for everyone. .
