Kevin Spacey’s sexual misconduct trial attorney has COVID

One of the lead attorneys representing Kevin Spacey in the sexual misconduct trial has tested positive for COVID-19. Jennifer Keeler, who has handled much of the defense team’s thorough debriefing, will not be allowed back in court until she receives a negative result from two diagnostic tests that took her two days to complete. When you return, Judge Lewis Kaplan said, you should wear a mask. Keeler’s symptoms were on Thursday morning.

“We’ll resume this morning and go as far as we can,” Kaplan said.

Spacey is accused of having unwanted sexual adventures in 1986 against Anthony Rapp when Rapp was 14 years old. Rapper, who starred in Star Trek: Discovery and appeared in the original Broadway production of “Rent,” is suing Spacey for $40 million in damages. Keeler tried to find inconsistencies in Raab’s testimony, focusing on details he might have missed, such as the layout of Spacey’s studio apartment. She pushed the idea that Rapp lied about Spacey’s alleged misconduct out of professional jealousy.

Kaplan said anyone who has been in close contact with Keeler will not be allowed to return to court until Tuesday. The jury, he said, “have all been vaccinated to some degree.” Spacey’s entire legal team has also been vaccinated and bolstered. Since they exposed Keeler, Kaplan said the actor’s lawyers should wear masks for 10 days.

The jurors entered the courtroom fully masked Thursday morning. They were asked to test themselves on Sunday and Tuesday and submit the results to court.
