Netflix ad-supported plan launches next month for $7, blocking downloads

A while ago, Netflix lost a large number of original subscribers. Since then, the company has been trying to devise new ways to control damage. These strategies include limiting password sharing, charging users more for sharing their accounts, and other similar methods that encourage more people to pay. In its latest attempt to appeal to people on a tight budget, Netflix is ​​launching an ad-supported category for $6.99 per month. The new plan will be available next month, in November, to viewers in 12 countries.

The cheapest ad-supported Netflix category is coming soon

In a newsroom post, today Netflix shared more details regarding the ad supported plan. Users in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States will have access to this option. US residents will get to sign up starting November 3 at 9AM PT. The company says:

Starting in November, signing up is easy – visit Netflix.com, sign up with your email, date of birth and gender to get started. Basic with ads It also represents an exciting opportunity for advertisers – an opportunity to reach a diverse audience, including younger viewers who are increasingly not watching linear TV, in a premium environment with a seamless, high-definition advertising experience.

When you first launch this plan, the ads will last for 15 or 30 seconds. These ads will run before and during your Netflix viewing session. On average, viewers can expect 4-5 minutes of ads for every hour of content they watch. In particular, though, access to the entire catalog will not be available to Basic with ads Participants. In addition, viewers will be restricted to a maximum of 720p, and downloads will be blocked for offline viewing. Those who cannot afford these restrictions can continue to pay for one of the existing higher-tier plans.
