Twitter appears to be looking at new ways to allow its users to have better control over their experience on the platform. According to engineer and researcher Jane Manchun Wong, it is working on a feature that allows users to control mentions, either by completely blocking the user’s handle from being included in the mention or just giving the people the user follows the ability to include in their mention. . If implemented, it could be a big step for those who want to protect their privacy, or avoid unwanted inclusion in tweets. Although the feature was discovered, it is currently unknown if it will make it to the platform.

Over the past month or so, Twitter debuted quite a few new and important features. The platform’s final focus area was audio. It debuted in a revamped Spaces in August and finally completed its rollout for iOS and Android users just last month. While it started as something different, Spaces is now a complete audio hub, where users can listen to various forms of live and recorded audio content from the community, and they also offer a wide range of podcasts. It also recently doubled up on video, giving users a new and immersive video experience, mirroring the popular short video app TikTok.
Perhaps most importantly, after years of users asking for this feature, Twitter finally rolled out the ability to edit tweets for those in supported regions. While Twitter is adding a lot of new features, most of them have been behind the paywall, which requires a subscription to Twitter Blue which costs $4.99 per month. There’s no telling what features the firewall will offer next, but it could mean that in the future, privacy on the platform could come at a cost.
