An Israeli documentary film “Munich 72” was sold to Italy, Spain, Poland and Slovenia

Global Screen sold “Munich 72”, an Israeli documentary series about the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics, to Polish channel Kanal+, Italian broadcaster La 7, Spain’s Filmin, and Slovenia’s RTV.

Co-producers, Sipur (formerly Tadmor Entertainment) and Israel’s Channel 8 also announced the executive production team behind the documentary: Russ McCarroll, Michael Schmidt, Emilio Schenker and Gideon Tadmor for SIPUR; Jan Frouman, Julia Weber, and Ulrike Schroder from Telepool; Renate Klein and Dorit Hessel from HOT 8.

“We have seen strong sales momentum for the ‘Munich 72’ heading to Mipcom, and we are in advanced negotiations with a number of other buyers we will meet in Cannes,” said Weber, Global Screen Head of International Sales and Acquisitions. “We expect to announce these deals very soon.”

“Munich 72” aired in September on Yes VOD in Israel to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the massacre.

The documentary was directed by Roman Shumonov (“Back to Chernobyl”, “Here and Now”, “Dreamers of Babylon”), and produced by Ronen Machlis Balzam (“Bernstein”). Written by Ross McCarroll, prolific documentary writer/producer/creator (“The 44th President: In His Own Words,” Barbarians Rising, “The World Wars,” “Pawn Stars”) and investigative journalist/director of Shany Shaggy.

“Munich 72”, which mixes documentary and fiction, is backed by newly declassified files. It reveals talks in the Israeli cabinet during the crisis, as well as unseen German documents revealing discussions that took place in the German crisis room where the event was organized. This newly revealed information forms the basis of the series’ dramatic recreation.
