House Targaryen is a mess, but a family member seems to know how things will turn out long before they actually happen. at multiple points during Dragon House In the first season, something happened that was previously mentioned by the always quiet Helena Targaryen in a mysterious letter. Helena has been largely ignored by fans and on-screen characters until this point in the series, but she maintains that she may be one of the most pivotal characters in the series.
Early on Sunday’s penultimate episode, Aliscent came across Helena while searching for her brother and husband Egon. While Helena does not know where Egon is, she tells her mother, “Beware the monster under the panels.” It just seems like a stranger’s delusion at the time, potentially indicating where Egon could be hiding, but it turns out to be something much bigger than that. At the end of the episode, with Aegon being crowned king, Rhaenys emerges to the ground with her dragon, interrupting the entire ceremony and putting House Targaryen on a flag.
Rhaenys’ predictions and her dragon weren’t the first time Helaena had apparently seen her in the future. Earlier in the season, Helaena spoke with Alicent about her brother Aemond, and the fact that he was being teased for not having a dragon. During this sequence, Helena said he would “have to close his eyes”. It didn’t make sense at the time, but in one episode later, Aemond lost his eye in a fight with his nephews after controlling the mighty dragon Vhagar.
Can the Targaryens see the future?
Some Targaryens are known as “dreamers”, with the ability to gain insights into specific incidents before they happen. This is often discussed in connection with Aegon’s prophecy, A Song of Ice and Fire, as well as Daenerys Targaryen, which depicted the collapse of ancient Valyria.
Helena appears to be another dreamer in the Targaryens long line. She may not fully understand her talents, but she has shown that she can recognize things before they come true. This could play a vital role in the upcoming war with Rhinera.
