Warner Chappell Music Publishing has revealed an original podcast series, “Setting the Standard: Stories from the Great American Songbook,” in partnership with Bang/Audiation—the team behind the WCM podcast “Final Sessions: Harry Nilsst’s Losst and Founnd.” According to the announcement, the new podcast “weaves story and song together in a tapestry of American cultural history for songwriters, historians, musicians, artists, and fans alike.”
“Setting the Standard” will be released on October 25, and will feature eight episodes – each about a different legendary songwriter – starting with three-time Academy Award-winning composer Harry Warren. Additional episodes will be released throughout the year and highlight composers and songwriters including Cole Porter, George, Ira Gershwin, Jules Stein, and more. Using historical sources and new discussions with scholars, critics, artists and family members, the series will tell their life stories and highlight their most famous songs. It will also feature exclusive interviews from artists such as Billy Corgan and Michael Feinstein and great songwriters such as Justin Tranter.
The series will be hosted by former Rolling Stone and Billboard editor Joe Levy, with support from the Grammy Museum and The Great American Songbook Foundation.
