She further explained, “When I was there, I was watching these groups of women in the freezing water, you know, just stealing water and catching up on their knees, and I thought, ‘They could be plotting to kill them there. This is their sacred place, like… and also the idea of Christmas swimming, I mean ‘I’m sure it’s done in other parts of the world.’ But to me, it felt like something the Garveys could have done with their parents, which they continued as a tradition.”
