Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe stared at a Hollywood crush for action | movies | entertainment

The Harry Potter films looked like they were made with pure magic – but it all comes down to a clever movie-making stunt. Draco Malfoy star Tom Felton has just released his new book that delves into some of the movie series’ mysteries. He revealed that Daniel Radcliffe, the actor behind Harry Potter, used his childhood crush to help him master some of his movie’s most iconic moments.

Felton’s new memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, just hit bookshelves and introduces a host of secrets used in the wizarding world.

In the book, he revealed that each of the young actors was allowed to bring in pictures to help them act while flying on broomsticks.

Flying became a major part of the Harry Potter series early on, so Radcliffe had plenty of time to sit on the broom. For this reason, he needed a certain Hollywood star to get him to act accordingly.

“The broom stick was a metal pole with a very uncomfortable bike saddle,” Felton recalls. “They had a more elaborate swing device to move you up and down, left and right. They blew fans in your face to make it look like you had the wind in your hair.”

Frequently, Felton recalls, a tennis ball was used on a long pole to get the actors’ attention during certain scenes.

“Sometimes there is more than one tennis ball,” he added. “And since one was so similar to the other, after a while it gave us more individual things to stare at. We chose pictures of something or someone close to our hearts.”

He revealed, “Daniel Radcliffe had a private photo of Cameron Diaz.”

Radcliffe said, “Juno Temple! I’ve worked with her, she’s great, and I don’t mind saying her name.”

Meanwhile, Felton had a different kind of image of desiring broomstick flying scenes.

Yet not every moment in Felton’s memoir is filled with whims and wonder. Later in the book, he talks about his struggles with alcohol, and how he went to rehab to deal with his demons.

Felton admitted that drinking eventually started interfering with his work. He said, “She went from being not particularly interested [in alcohol] to a few pints of water regularly every day before sunset, and to a drop of whiskey to use with each.”

His management team threatened to drop him from their list, so they teamed up with Felton’s girlfriend to intervene. Soon after, he agreed to enter a rehabilitation facility in Malibu. But he “wasn’t ready yet” to admit he had a problem.

Instead, he escaped rehab and walked “several miles” to a bar in Hollywood. Along the way, someone stopped him and asked if he was thinking if he was a “really rich man” in his life. (via Cosmopolitan)
