Instagram implements new tools to protect creators and users

Instagram has evolved from a photo sharing service into something much more than that. Although it has added a lot of features over the years, the social aspect of the app has become more involved, providing users with numerous ways to connect with the audience. Fortunately, the app has also implemented a lot of safeguards for its users, and with its latest update, it is trying to harden some of the old features and introduce new ones as well.

Last year, Instagram introduced a feature that allows users to not only block a user, but also any new accounts the person might create. Now, with the new update, users will also have the option to block existing accounts that someone might have created in the past. This is a great feature that should prevent those trying to circumvent the system.

The company will also double up on Hidden Words, a feature that debuted last year that automatically filters malicious content from the creators’ comments section. This feature has been a huge hit, filtering out up to 40 percent of negative comments. Now, the new update will automatically enable this feature, so that more creators can experience the effect firsthand. Of course, creators will still have the option to choose whether they want to enable or disable hidden words.

In addition to enabling it automatically, Instagram extends the capabilities of Hidden Words, offering support for Persian, Turkish, Russian, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil. The feature will now also check for offensive words, even if they are misspelled, and will expand to protect creators in story responses. Furthermore, in the US, Instagram will start adding new terms to the service that will check for spam and fraud messages.

It will also introduce more “alerts” to its platform, giving users more notifications about the platform keeping a respectable space. Alerts will also expand to include direct messages, advising users to think before sending a message to the originator. Furthermore, the notifications will be expanded to new languages, and will now include Arabic, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Chinese. If you are interested, download the app, and take a look, where things have changed for the better.
