Kanye West Streams, broadcasting retracted following anti-Semitic comments

Two weeks of controversy caused Kanye West’s music consumption to drop sharply.

According to the latest data from Luminate, Kanye West’s albums (now going to Ye) are down 23% (as of October 20, compared to the previous week) and streaming (it’s on radio) has dropped to 13% in the US on some stations, such as KIIS- FM in Los Angeles, the rapper’s turnover dropped last week to zero.

In every monitored category, including physical and digital sales, programmed broadcasts and on-demand, West saw some losses locally.

Worldwide, West sales are down 17.5% per Luminate, while inflows are down 2% through Oct.

The rapper’s controversial statements about the Jewish people, which led to his Twitter and Instagram accounts being restricted, escalated between October 6, when he appeared on “Tucker Carlson”, and October 19, when an interview with Piers Morgan was released in full. But so do calls to boycott the artist and his works.

Following a public appeal from Ari Emmanuel of WME Published in the Financial Times, UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer sent a company-wide memo condemning anti-Semitism and calling for a boycott of the West on Sunday night (October 23), a sentiment shared by Gersh’s Bob Gersh. The next day, the CAA confirmed that West was no longer a client, and studio MRC announced that a completed documentary about West would be put on hold.
