Despite his sensational introduction to Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight,” former talk show king Jerry Springer ended up being the first celebrity eliminated for the evening after an audience vote. Springer spoke to CinemaBlend about his exit, and why he now suspects that the series isn’t expecting him to put it very far in the competition.

The former mayor explained that he had a great time participating in the hilarious competition, although he questioned after the fact how sure everyone was going to be one of the eliminations that night. Springer expressed some clues he picked up in hindsight that he wasn’t supposed to be in competition for the long haul, saying:
You know, when I saw the other two works, it immediately became clear that I was taking up space. These guys were great, they really were. I was going to pay cash to buy tickets to their concerts… and I knew they didn’t expect me to stay, because – and I thought about it last night while watching – what would happen if I hadn’t been voted? I had to sing another song. Well, I didn’t know any other song! We haven’t rehearsed another song! So they didn’t bother giving me the song for the second round [laughs]. This was crazy! And then, why did the hotel call me in the morning and say, “Do you want to check out early?” How did they know I was leaving town? But no, it was fun.
Jerry Springer had a laugh breaking it all, so fans shouldn’t be worried that he was upset, or that he was really skeptical about the contest being rigged against him. Springer had nothing but praise for the three Lambs and Robo Girl, who advanced to the Battle Royale round. And while Jerry Springer might feel at home on his messy daytime TV show (that ended in 2018) or playing the role of a judge in the courtroom, he did better disguised singer From a regular performer with no known singing credits, he might have come forward even if he wasn’t Season 8 look. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he felt inspired to drop the old-school crooners album after responding to his performance from the plate, although Springer noted during our interview that he’s retired and not as active in Hollywood as he once was.
