Writer and Producer Chris Nee will be honored at the 6th Annual Women in Animation (WIA) Diversity Awards alongside Iranian director Seyed Mohsenpour Mohseni Chakib and representatives from Epic Games for their exemplary achievements in driving diversification efforts in the animation industry.
Ni’s career began as a co-producer at Sesame Street Intl. , but her ultimate legacy lies in creating Disney Junior’s “Doc McStuffins” – the first-ever preschool show featuring a black girl using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), which 7-year-old Dottie “Doc” McStuffins uses to treat her infected toys .
The show quickly became one of The most popular children’s TV programsShe harnessed her platform to positively influence viewers’ perceptions of black and female doctors as well as break boundaries as the first Disney show ever to feature an interracial gay couple. The brainchild of Ni went to win the Peabody Award in 2014 for Children’s Programs.

One individual, organization, and film is chosen annually to be honored at the WIA Diversity Awards, held in partnership with the Spark Computer Graphics Society. Mohsen Pour Mohseni Chakib will be honored in the film category after the successful receipt of his short film “A Gray, Gray World”. The six-minute animation follows a young man whose colorful identity is revealed in an all-gray, monochromatic world, instigating a journey of fear and arrest in the fight for freedom of expression.
