It turns out that the studio went with suicide squad Director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran to head the newly minted DC Studios. Gunn had to sign an exclusive waiver and could no longer work on any of the Marvel Studios projects. Some fans seem to think that the director may have bad blood with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, but the opposite is true. When asked if he hates Feige and Marvel now, Gunn revealed that the Marvel boss is the first person he told about the job.
“Not only do I love Kevin, he was the first person I told after I made the deal with DC (JohnCena was the second),” Gunnowrote on Twitter. “Contrary to popular belief, a dollar less for Marvel is not a dollar more for DC. DC & Marvel have a common goal of keeping the go-to-theater experience vibrant and vibrant!”
Reports have revealed that Safran didn’t want to take on the job without the help of a creative mind like Gunn, so the upcoming director is just cake on the cake. According to Deadline, Gunn and Safran will begin their terms starting November 1, 2022, and their contracts will run for four years.
“The duo will report to Zaslav, but will also be in close contact with Warner Bros. Film Group co-chairs and CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdi on matters such as marketing, distribution and capital spending — just so everyone is on the same page,” the trade wrote. “Jin and Safran starting November 1st.”
