It’s been 21 years since The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus first released “Face Down,” a song about a woman suffering from domestic violence. Today, the band is back with an updated version of their music video, focusing on one specific line: “A new life I found.”
The song is a very personal song for the band’s brothers – head stand Ronnie Winter and guitarist, Randy Winter. While they grew up in a home witnessing domestic violence, their mother is doing well today, a story that was important to tell. In addition, they partnered with a charitable foundation domesticshelters.org.
In an exclusive interview with diverseRooney explains that he was “intimidated” by the idea of competing with the first video.
“I lost sleep over it, and couldn’t even get close to anything worth writing about. I expressed my displeasure to [director] Angela Defoe, Let me try to write a story about the new release. Randy did a great job with the music. As soon as I read the story presentation from Angela, I was totally stunned,” he says. “I just knew she had to direct to protect the story, because she was so bold. It was everything I couldn’t come up with and more. It fits perfectly.”
Although the words remain unchanged, Ronnie’s tone is different in this version.
“The way I sing the tunes has evolved and so has the whole production of the actual music being played. I wanted to focus especially on the phrase ‘A new life I found’ because my mother had a really great life after we all went through hell as a family,” he explains. “It was important to me to show that things can improve if you make tough decisions.”
The video, produced by A+R Productions, features Kendra Cover, the actress from the original 2006 video. The baby in the video is Wolfgang, the son of Ronnie who he shares with his wife Defoe.
All American Rejects performed to 80,000 ticket holders at the When We Were Young Festival on Sunday, October 23, and concluded with a powerful performance of the song.
“Although the comeback has been at an all-time high, this band has never broken up or officially stopped,” he said. diverse. “With that being said, it was one of my favorite groups of my entire career. Mainly because we were one of the first teams to play after the first day it ended tragically. The atmosphere was loud. It was as if everyone, at once, took a deep breath and said, “Well, it’s really happening,” which was really needed. In that moment, we were all united. She was really beautiful. I’m so grateful I was alive to see her, and I felt so honored to be a part of her in my own little way.”
