Actor Thomas Doherty in Dandelion

Thomas Doherty, known for playing the resident spinner in the reboot of “Gossip Girl” on HBO Max, is set to star alongside Kiki Layne on “Dandelion.”

The romantic drama, which is supported by IFC Films, is currently in production. The International Finance Corporation plans to release the film theatrically at a date yet to be determined in 2023.

Nicole Riggle wrote and directed the song Dandelion, which centers on an aspiring singer-songwriter named Dandelion (Layne), who seems unable to fulfill her dream when she reluctantly performs a gig at a motorbike race away from her hometown of Cincinnati. At the event, I meet Casey (Doherty), a guitarist who has long since walked away from his dream. As Dandelion joins Casey’s electric and nomadic group of struggling musicians, sister souls make music together and strike an intoxicating romance that changes their artistic journey.

“Dandelion,” according to Kiki Lane, is “a story about the resilience of the human spirit and the magic of chance.” Lane’s breakout role was opposite Stephen James in the 2018 romantic drama Barry Jenkins “If Beale Street Can Talk”. She also appeared in “The Old Guard” and “Coming 2 America”.

Riggle, whose debut film was the 2020 drama “Holler,” praised Doherty as a “curious and insightful actor.”

“I am excited for everyone to experience the pure artist that he is,” she said in a statement. “This has been one of the most fulfilled actor-director partnerships of my career.”

Doherty, 27 and from Scotland, has also starred in the Disney Channel series “The Lodge,” the “Descendants” franchise and the recent Sony horror thriller “The Invitation.”
