The Meecool Now KA2 Android TV unit and camera have a streamlined look that you can see in the pictures below. The front of the unit contains the power switch, infrared receiver and one-click answer button. There are four LED lights displaying a range of colors depending on the function. On the right side is the camera itself with an LED display that shows when the camera is in use, on or off.
If you’re worried about pointing the camera at you every time you’re in front of the TV, the unit also comes with a microphone privacy switch and a knurled wheel that, when rotated, covers the viewfinder with a physical cover.
Below the unit is a power jack port, an HDMI input/output port, and a network port.
There are adjustable legs that slide to the back of the unit to prevent it from sliding forward and away from the TV screen. Installing the Mecool Now KA2 Android TV Camera is as simple as its design. All you have to do is connect the HDMI cable to the TV and the Mecool unit, plug in the power supply, and turn the unit on. Pair the remote control to the camera (after inserting two AAA batteries), sign in to your Google account, and start connecting. The entire installation process only took two minutes.
After that, all you have to do is log in and start calling the people in your contact list. Note that this Android TV and camera will only work with Google Meet video calling software, so make sure you have a Google account ready before setting up.
I found the Mecool Now KA2 smart camera software to be simple to pair with the remote control. Turn on the camera and put the batteries in the remote control. When the screen appears, click on the Volume Down and Enter buttons at the same time until the device flashes. It will then pair the remote control with the Mecool Now KA2 decoder.
Once the app is connected, click the Google Duo button on the remote control to access the Google Meet screen. Just make sure you have the latest version of Google Duo – or Google Meet, as it’s now known.
I was able to get the decoder quickly, although I had one problem. I followed the instructions in the user guide, clicked the Google Duo button on the remote control, and quickly started Google Meet. However, I could not see any contacts, nor could I create any groups on the screen. My contact list was empty, which was confusing. It took me a while to figure out the problem: I couldn’t call any of my contacts without any Google Meet-enabled contacts appearing in the list, and I couldn’t figure out where to add them. then. Everything became clear. All my contacts are synced with my Outlook accounts. I’ve never used Google Contacts to save any names across any of my devices.
This is a big issue for me. I want the right to choose where to save and sync my contacts, and my choice is not Google. Of course, if you have an Android device or you use Gmail exclusively, you will not have this problem. However, I cut the bullet on my Android device, and added some names to Google Contacts, so that I could test this feature properly. Once I added contacts to my Google account, they all worked perfectly.

It is easy to make calls from the device. Use the remote control to scroll down to the name you want and tap Call, either using a video call or a voice call. However, there is no Netflix, which may be a deal breaker for some. You also get Google Assistant access to basic smart controls.
Unfortunately, while there are plenty of great filters you can use on a mobile device, you can’t use any of them with the Mecool Now KA2 Android TV and camcorder at the end of a call. The only effect you can use is to reverse the camera into the room. The picture in picture mode shows how much space is visible from the room on the screen to the other end.
Calls work just as they do from a mobile device to a mobile device – apart from the absence of filters and effects. The only difference is that your TV becomes the screen. You can sit on the sofa and chat with your friends without holding your mobile device or moving it to fit everyone in the picture. Video calling is a much better experience with this tool.
Calling a contact was easy, and receiving an incoming call on the device was simple. I also liked that you can turn off the microphone and put a hood over the lens when you want to make sure your privacy is guaranteed.
There are other TV cameras on the market, such as facebook portal metawhich is more expensive, or Echo Show Flashing a small package from Amazon. Meta Camera is more flexible in terms of connectivity platforms, but it doesn’t provide the full Android TV experience. With its built-in smart speaker, the Echo show will do more than make video calls, but experience a much smaller screen.
