$200 million worldwide

Paramount’s frightening thriller “Smile” was a phenomenal achievement at the box office, exceeding $200 million worldwide.

After six weeks on the big screen, the film grossed $99.1 million domestically and $103.8 million internationally for $202.9 million worldwide. It’s an excellent result since it only cost $17 million to produce “Smile.”

“Smile’s stunning global performance truly shows what is possible when you deliver a brilliantly brilliant marketing campaign as well as a masterfully crafted high-concept horror movie,” said Brian Robbins, President and CEO of Paramount Pictures. “Thank you to all of our creative partners, director Parker Fenn, an incredible cast, and best-in-class production, marketing and distribution teams for creating a group entertainment experience that movie fans can only find in theaters!”

Ticket sales for “Smile” are particularly impressive because the movie was not initially expected to be released in theaters at all. The film, starring Susie Bacon (daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick) as a therapist haunted by hallucinations after witnessing a patient tragically die, is assigned to Paramount+. But once the film was widely embraced in test shows, the studio was encouraged to abandon broadcasting in favor of full theatrical production.

It continues the sterling box office stretch for Paramount, which scored in 2022 with “Top Gun: Maverick,” “The Lost City,” “Scream,” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2..”
