“The puzzle pieces started falling together and behind the scenes, as well as in front of the camera, all of these pieces started falling off sort of and it didn’t happen overnight. This was kind of a work in progress for a while. It wasn’t something that happened overnight,” Jarrett explained (h/t WrestlingNews.co).
“I don’t know if I’m more excited about backstage work or executive work or all that, stuff in the ring because Karen texted me on Wednesday, around 1 or 1:30, and said, ‘What are you doing? 19-year-old walking around the WMC TV studios.” I said, “I’m nervous about tonight.” I’m overthinking things. I wanted things to go right. I wasn’t quite sure about it.” “That’s the kind of message I want to throw out there. Guys, I’ve been doing this for a long time, but I was as nervous as I could possibly be, and when the lights were restored in the ring it was a surreal moment. The reaction was a bit of fresh paint, and a guitar Little red, and a little red and black guitar. It was really cool. Got a good crack on my old Darby. I’m so grateful. I’m excited. I’m willing to dig, in all sorts of ways.”
In addition to appearing as a special guest referee on summerslam, The company reappointed the WWE Hall of Famer as its senior vice president of live events in May. It was abandoned in August, weeks after Vince McMahon left the promotion and Stephanie McMahon and Nick Kahn took over as co-CEO while Paul Levesque was appointed in charge of booking.
