Washington Captains quarterback Taylor Heinick threw a massive touchdown pass to Curtis Samuel, assisted by an official who faced off against a Minnesota Vikings defender.
The Washington Commanders have been late, winning their past three games to bring them back to 0.500 and two games behind the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants to finish second in the NFC East. They had the opportunity to finish fourth in a row by beating the Minnesota Vikings 6-1 in Week 9.
At the start of the third quarter, captain Taylor Heineke threw a pass deep into the field intended for wide receiver Curtis Samuel. In a strange sequence of events, Samuel was surrounded by three Viking defenders. One of those defenders, Salameh Camryn Bynum, was shot down by a field official. This allowed a slot to open for Samuel, who picked up the pass and rolled into the end zone for a touchdown.

Prior to that touchdown, Washington was 7-3 behind. Minnesota hit first of the day on a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins to receiver Justin Jefferson in the first quarter. Washington responded shortly before the break with a 44-yard field goal from Joey Sly.
