In a few days, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit cinemas. The film is sure to be emotional, as it will deal with the death of T’Challa actor, Chadwick Boseman, who died on August 28, 2020 after battling cancer. The series’ director, Ryan Coogler, has now opened up about the last emotional conversation he had with the Marvel star just weeks before his death.
Coogler broke his silence on The Official Black Panther Podcast that aired over the weekend.
He revealed that his last conversation with Boseman was about the script of the previous Black Panther 2 script.
‘If he wants to read,’ Bosman asked [the script] Before I got feedback from the studio.” The 36-year-old director added, “That was the last time we spoke. He died maybe two weeks after I finished.”
The star didn’t know Bosman was sick at the time, but admitted he knew something was wrong on the other end of the phone.
Coogler was touched by the memory of the loss of his friend. He said, “I could tell he was lying down when we were talking. He kicked [his wife, Taylor] Simon came out because he told her he didn’t want her to hear anything that could get him into trouble with the NDA.”
He added, “She didn’t want to leave. I can tell that something happened.”
Despite wanting Bosman’s final approval for the script, Coogler revealed that the actor refused to read the script because he “didn’t want to get in the way of studio notes.”
“I later found out he was too tired to read anything,” Coogler admitted. (via people)

Coogler was surprised by the news. He admitted he “didn’t want to believe it”.
I called Denzel [Washington], “to remember”. And I talked to him, and we thought it might be a rumor, so I texted Chad. I was in denial.”
He added, “Everything about Chad was unique. How he lived and how he died was unique.”
Prior to Boseman’s death, Coogler was working on a completely different scenario for Black Panther 2.
Coogler recently revealed that the script was more of a superhero’s personal journey.
He explained, “The script we wrote before Chadwick died was very much rooted in T’Challa’s perspective. It was a huge movie but also at the same time a character study that delved into his psyche and setting.”
The American director, along with co-writer Joe Robert Cole, explained that they wrote a script that “focused on T’Challa’s character and his development as a leader.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
