Bad Bunny has been named the 1st Latino Apple Music Artist of the Year

Apple Music chose Bad Bunny as Artist of the Year 2022, the first time since the launch of the Apple Music Awards in 2019 that a Latin artist has been honored.

The official announcement said the award recognizes “the artistic excellence of music and its impact on global culture in 2022.” Join previous AOTY honorees including Billie Eilish, Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.

Puerto Rican rap-reggaeton titan has spent most of this year dominating the global music market. His latest studio album, “Un Verano Sin Ti,” is Apple Music’s most-streamed album of 2022, and has catapulted the “Titi Me Pregunto” singer into becoming the most popular Latin artist of all time by the global streaming number on Apple Music. Upon its release on May 6, the 23-track group set the record for first day broadcasts worldwide. Its illustrious opening track, “Moscow Mule,” also holds the Apple Music record for the biggest Latin hit of all time with first-day streams worldwide.

In addition, he broke the record for most simultaneous entries by a single Latin artist with 22 songs on the Daily Top 100 and reached #1 on the same playlist in 34 countries around the world – a milestone that no other Latin artist has been able to achieve. He holds Latin albums #1, #2 and #3, which are sorted by first-day streams.

Also this year, he became the only artist in history to stage two separate tours grossing $100 million in less than 12 months, between the El Último Tour Del Mundo and the latest Hottest World Tour, which recently hit the US for seven weeks.

“When I started, I didn’t have a global fan base,” the artist told Apple Music in an exclusive. “I’m grateful for everything you’ve accomplished and everything I’ve been through. The Latin music movement has grown so much. I’ll never get full credit or say, ‘It’s because of me.’ No, all of us. An entire generation. We always feel our energy and our presence.”

Back in February 2018, Bad Bunny was Apple Music’s first Up Next Latin artist for the platform’s Rising Artist program. He was also the first host of Trap Kingz, the first Spanish language radio show on Beats 1 Radio, and hosted the first six episodes of the show in 2017.

To celebrate his victory at AOTY, Bad Bunny will take over La Fórmula’s podium playlist which is filled with his favorite tracks from Myke Towers, Rauw Alejandro, Jhayco and more. Fans can also listen to Apple Music 1, Bad Bunny Day with exclusive radio content like early career interviews, specials, and more.
