Henry Cavill returns to his role as Sherlock Holmes in Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2. The character is best known for several actors including the incomparable Robert Downey Jr. in the film series, and fellow British BBC Benedict Cumberbatch. Sherlock. In an interview with our very own Sean O’Connell about Enola Holmes 2 (Opens in a new tab)Cavill talked about what it was like to work on the 22B apartment block, and how that affected his performance. The DCEU star spoke enthusiastically about the magical set that featured the apartment, and what motivates the production designers who were incorporated to try to capture the tone of the story. Cavil in detail:
It was a great set rich in details and things the audience might never see because angles never really covered it but there was detail and character all around. It is an exceptional place filled with all kinds of tools, devices and things that you would find in a museum.
It must have been such a blast just to look at all the Sherlock ornaments inside the apartment set. Later in the same conversation with CinemaBlend, the Superman actor went on to talk about how this detailed space managed to infiltrate his performance and embody the entire classic role. As he says ,
Just shooting that group rarely left. Even in between – we had 45 minutes, an hour prep. The chairs were very comfortable, and I felt comfortable in that space – as long as I wasn’t in the way of the crew trying to do their job. I just like to relax there and soak it all up. I’ll find something new to play with [with] And play with every day.
The sense of comfort in the space obviously helped Cavill feel like his own mysterious sanctuary. 22b Baker Street, London apartment is famous as the central location of many Sherlock Holmes alterations. It’s Holmes’ home, as he solves some of London’s most intricate mysteries, and tracks down the culprits. The iconic location has been recreated once again in the Enola Holmes series, and perfectly captures the intrigues associated with the setting.
I think feeling comfortable in his character’s space actually worked for Cavill, as fans reacted to him Enola Holmes 2 It was incredibly positive. Many cited the wonderful brother/sister chemistry between him and co-star Millie Bobby Brown as the film’s high point. Some even describe the sequel as being better than the original. Plus, the return of Cavill’s gorgeous curls is a definite pro to check out this movie now.
