Exit CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl

Kelly Cale Graduates as President of CBS Entertainment After Decades in the Position, diverse Learn.

His exit was announced in an email from CBS CEO George Cheeks to staff Wednesday, along with a note from Cal himself.

See Cheeks’ email below.

Team – I want you to be aware of an important shift happening today. As part of a leadership restructuring and streamlining at CBS Entertainment, Kelly Kahl, our distinguished colleague and division chief, will leave CBS by the end of the year.

Below is the memo Kelly sent to his team this morning. We’ll have more information on the new leadership structure very soon, but for now I really want to focus on Kelly and the amazing legacy he’s leaving on this network.

Kelly is unparalleled in the field of television broadcasting. He’s the architect of primetime schedules that have made CBS #1 for 19 of the past 20 seasons. He’s the slick, gritty scheduler who moved SURVIVOR and CSI to Thursdays, changing the landscape of that night after a decade of NBC dominance.

As President of Entertainment, he has presented such hit shows as THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THE EQUALIZER, NCIS: HAWAI’I, THREE FBIs, FIRE COUNTRY and GHOSTS and was the avid host of CBS reality franchises. More broadly, Kelly was a fierce advocate for the liveliness of broadcast television while being a steadfast and respected leader for the network through good times as well as turbulent periods.

Without a doubt, Kelly has dedicated the past 26 years to building CBS and left it in a position to find even more success. He was humble, generous, and generous with his peers every step of the way.

On a personal note, I want to thank Kelly for being such a valuable colleague and having a voice heard over the past two and a half years.

Please join me in thanking Kelly from the bottom of my heart for all his contributions to CBS, and in wishing him well for the future.

George

And a note here:

cbs friends,

The incredible and improbable journey that began for me here 26 years ago has finally reached its finish line. I’m leaving CBS at the end of this year.

It has been an absolute honor and privilege to work for CBS, America’s most watched network. (He’ll never get sick of hearing that.) I’ve lived a TV fan’s dream of working with TV’s most talented writers, producers, and actors. Most importantly, I’ve loved being in the trenches alongside all of you – the best executives and staff in show business. I want to thank everyone I’ve worked with for your great efforts, creativity, and professionalism, all of which have helped make this phenomenal and #1 leading network for nearly 20 years in a row. This place is special and so are its people.

I started here as a scheduler when we were 3Research and development A place and I like to fight in 1Street, but I’m especially proud of our accomplishments during my tenure as President of Entertainment over the past five years; We’ve delivered tangible improvements in diversity and inclusion in front of and behind the camera, brought our teams together and focused during the pandemic, and launched several hit series that have maintained CBS’ #1 status.

I have been fortunate to make strong friendships with many of you, and I will cherish the memories of wonderful adventures on tours, press tours, photo shoots, final papers, and superlative dishes. I hope and trust that those connections will continue going forward.

My best to all of you. It’s been an amazing ride and I’m excited to see what’s next. Until then, I hope to see you underground…

I buy.

fondly

Kelly
