Qualcomm adds two new chipsets to its audio platform – Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 and Qualcomm S3 Gen 2

The new SoCs are optimized for Bluetooth LE Audio and unlock several distinct audio experiences


Qualcomm has revealed several new SoCs at its ongoing Snapdragon Summit 2022 event in Hawaii. Along with the upcoming flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for smartphones, the company announced the release of Snapdragon AR2 Gen1 for next generation smart glasses and Qualcomm S3 Gen 2 and Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 for premium wireless audio devices.


The new Qualcomm S3 Gen 2 and Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 audio platforms follow the Qualcomm S3 and Qualcomm S5 audio platforms that the company announced at MWC earlier this year. Qualcomm claims the company’s new audio platforms “The most advanced Bluetooth sound system yet,” It features support for its own Snapdragon Sound technology optimized to work with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The audio platforms bring a host of new premium features to Snapdragon Sound, including spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, improved lossless music streaming, and 48ms between phone and earphones for lag-free gaming.

Besides these features, Qualcomm S3 Gen 2 and Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 support the third generation of Qualcomm Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation. Adaptive ANC technology on the new audio platforms also includes an Adaptive Transparency mode with automatic speech detection. Speaking about the latest audio chipset, James Chapman, Qualcomm Vice President and General Manager of Voice, Music and Wearables, said:

“The next-generation Qualcomm S5 and S3 platforms are designed to deliver the rich features consumers want most, while delivering ultra-low power performance. We were the first to offer lossless audio over Bluetooth and since then, we’ve continued to innovate. Qualcomm has begun sampling its new Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 and Qualcomm S3 Gen 2 audio platforms to OEMs, and you can expect to see them in commercial products in the second half of 2023.
