Zoë Kravitz: Big Little Lies Season 3 is dead after the death of Jean-Marc Vallée

Just last month, Laura Dern kept her hopes alive for the third season of “Big Little Lies” by recounting Entertainment tonight: “I mean, we’d all love nothing more, we’re like family, just so lucky. I say, let’s hold on to hope. Let’s keep wondering, it just might come true.” Cast member Zoë Kravitz didn’t keep such hope alive during a video interview. New with GQ Magazine. Kravitz announced that “Big Little Lies” was finished following the death of director and executive producer Jean-Marc Vallée.

“I don’t think so,” Kravitz said when answering a fan’s question about the chances of “Big Little Lies” returning for a third season. I can’t imagine it happening without him. He was really the visionary of this show. Unfortunately, it’s done.”

Vallée, the Quebecois director whose films also included “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Wild” (starring “Big Little Lies” actors Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern), died in December 2021 after suffering a heart attack in his cabin outside Quebec City, Canada. The director was only 58 years old at that time. Vallée directed all seven episodes of the original “Big Little Lies”, and remained creatively involved after Andrea Arnold took over directing duties for the show’s second season.

For his work on the first season of “Big Little Lies,” Vallée received an Emmy Award for Directing a Limited Series, Movie or Special. Between the two seasons of “Big Little Lies,” Vallée stayed with HBO to direct their limited series “Sharp Objects,” which stars Amy Adams.

“Jean-Marc Vallée was a brilliant and fiercely dedicated director, a truly exceptional talent who instilled in every scene a deeply profound emotional truth,” HBO said in a statement after the director’s death. “He was also a very caring man who invested himself fully along with every actor he directed.”

Many of the “Big Little Lies” cast members took to social media to pay tribute to Vale after his death, with Laura Dern writing, “The world has lost one of our greatest and purest artists and dreamers. We have lost our beloved friend. Our hearts are broken.”

“It’s hard to imagine someone as vital, energetic and present as Jean-Marc passing away,” Nicole Kidman added. “He was at the center of my creative world and I cannot overstate his importance to me.

The first two seasons of “Big Little Lies” are now streaming on HBO Max.
