Pixar’s “Elemental” gets its first trailer

Pixar finally answers the long-overdue question: What if items had feelings? The acclaimed studio has released the first trailer for its upcoming 27th feature, “Elemental,” set for release next year.

Directed by Peter Sohn, who directed Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur,” “Elemental” is set in a world where the four classic elements — fire, earth, water, and air — live and co-exist. The two main characters, Wade (go-with-the-flow), and fiery Amber, are both young adults who live in the city and run into and make out with each other. Despite their fundamental differences, the two develop a connection as they realize they have deeper similarities than what exists on the outside.

Dennis Rimm, who worked with Sohn on “The Good Dinosaur,” is producing the film. In a statement when the film was first announced in May, Son explained that the film’s premise was inspired by his experiences growing up in New York City as the son of Korean immigrants.

“My parents immigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a busy grocery store in the Bronx,” said Son. We were among the many families who ventured into a new land with hopes and dreams – all blending into a big salad bowl of cultures, languages and beautiful little neighborhoods. That’s what led me to “Elemental”. Our story is based on the classic elements – fire, water, earth and air. Elements with each other and others do not mix. What if these elements are alive?”

“Elemental” is set to be released in theaters on June 16, 2023. The film will keep Pixar in theaters after the release of “Lightyear” earlier this year. Prior to the “Toy Story” spin-off, three back-to-back Pixar films — “Soul,” “Luca,” and “Turning Red” — have all premiered on Disney+.
