Florence Welch postpones tour after breaking foot

Florence + the Machine was forced to postpone its tour after lead singer Florence Welch broke her foot.

Welch announced the news via her social media pages, writing: “I am sorry to say that after an x-ray I was dancing on a broken foot last night. It is not in my nature to delay a show, certainly not a UK tour, but I am in pain and as dancers know, Dancing when injured is not a good idea [I] He was asked not to perform to avoid further harm.”

Welch continued, “Please wait on your tickets.” We are doing everything we can to reschedule these dates for next year and will let you know as soon as possible. I am saddened that the ‘Dance Fever’ tour has been my favorite show ever. My heart hurts. I can’t wait to get back on my feet and be back in your arms.”

Florence + the Machine is currently on the first UK leg of their “Dance Fever” tour. They played the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in London on Friday night and were due to play a second night at the stadium this evening. There are seven more dates scheduled across the UK until the end of November.

Welch’s statement was accompanied by a picture of blood splattered on stage next to a microphone. Fan footage from last night’s O2 gig suggests Welch, who was performing barefoot, cut herself on stage. “When @florencemachine gives so much she leaves her blood on stage @o2,” a fan tweeted, along with a video of two mopping the stage floor.

“Florence ran so much that her feet started to bleed so she had to go backstage a few times to fix it, and as the crew wiped the actual actual blood off the stage my brain kept insisting they needed to throw paper towels in the crowd afterward,” another tweeted.

Next stop on the tour is Bournemouth on Monday night. No word yet from Welch’s camp if that date will go forward.
