Niv Arts and Little Lamb team up for slate production

Niv Art Movies and Little Lamb Films are teaming up to produce a slate of Malayalam and Bengali films. The first collaboration and co-production “Whispers of Fire & Water” is part of The Watching Room and Film Bazaar recommending parts of the National Film Development Corporation’s (NFDC) 2022 Film Bazaar.

Written and directed by newcomer Lobdak Chatterjee, whose short film Ahoti premiered in Rotterdam in 2020, Whispers of Fire is a Hindi, Bengali and English language film set in East India. It traces the journey of a sound installation artist who visits the largest coal mining region in eastern India. There he encounters depleted natural resources and landscapes shaped by fire and water.

Delhi-based Shaji and Aruna Mathew’s Niv Art Movies have produced critically acclaimed films including ‘S Durga’, which won the 2017 Tiger Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, and ‘Chola’ which screened at the Venice Film Festival in 2019.

Mumbai-based Bauddhayan and Monalisa Mukherji’s Little Lamb Films has produced independent films including ‘The Cloud & the Man’ (Tallinn Black Nights, IFF 2021) and ‘The Violin Player’ (Raindance Film Festival, 2016).

The list also includes Jeju Anthony’s “The Miracle of Love,” which previously premiered at Busan’s Asian Project Market in 2021. The film narrates a mother’s attempt to break through her autistic child, and is inspired by Anthony’s personal experiences. Anthony previously directed “The Forsaken” (Eli Eli Lama Sabachthani).

Papi Pete, who has been directing TV commercials for the past decade, is making his first feature film, ‘Pairi’. The Malayalam Indian project is a story about a feud between two fishermen with far-reaching consequences.
